Step 1: Create a Competition

Competition Management Steps

Q: How do I, as competition manager, create a competition?

Step 1: Create your Competition

  1. Competition Management > Competitions
  2. Click “Add Competitions”
  3. Select your Entity, Season, Competition Type, (Competition Sub-Type) and Age level from the dropdowns
  4. Can add in a Competition specific logo to display in the Rugby Xplorer app.
    • Note, if you do not add a competition specific logo, the competition owner's logo will display.
  5. Optional to add in min and/or max weight for weight restricted comps
  6. Enter Max Players
    • This is the maximum number of players that can be selected on a team list. For example, 15-a-side could be limited to 23 players.
    • In New Zealand, if
      • Competition Sub-Type Premier is selected, the max number of players is defaulted to 22 and cannot be changed.
      • Competition Sub-Type Representative is selected, the max number of players is defaulted to 23 and cannot be changed.
  7. Enter Competition Name
  8. Add Website Address (optional)
    • This will point the Rugby Xplorer app to this competition's specific website, as opposed to the competition owner's website.
  9. Draw Builder Helpers include the following:
  10. Game Duration, Half-Time Duration, Time between Matches in minutes
  11. Enter Number of Rounds (including finals) and Default Start Time
    • Please note, the default start time will be linked to the venue's timezone.
  12. Select Spill Venues and/or Hub Venues if applicable.
    • Spill Venues: handle overflow when home venues reach capacity.
    • Please note, these are important for competitions that will be using the Comprehensive Draw Builder and require these additions.
  13. If you competition will have Pools and/or a Ladder, check these boxes
    • Pools are used to group different teams within a competition.
    • Ladders are used for ranking teams within a competition based on their results from matches.
  14. Option to add a Default Forfeit Score
    • Check "Use Default Forfeit Score" and add in points for Winning Team and Losing Team
    • When a match is marked as 'forfeit' in the admin portal and/or Rugby Match Day app, you add the team calling the forfeit and the score will automatically populate for the winning team and losing team.
  15. Enter Max Competition Player Points and tick ‘Use Player Points’ (if applicable)
    • Note, competitions will default to ‘0’ in the Competition Player Points field.
  16. Competition Restrictions allows you to enter in specific registration types that players must be registered to, in order to appear for team selection in that competition.
    • The info icon provides additional detail. Note, registration types can only be entered when creating the competition. They cannot be entered retrospectively.
    • If registration types have been entered when creating the competition, they cannot all be removed afterwards.
    • If registration types have been entered, USA and NZ competitions will only be able to select teams from their own competition, not outside their competition. National admins can override this and add in teams from outside your competition.
